These are the main schemes open to UK households at the time of our last review. Each has its own eligibility rules, and several are limited to particular nations, property types or household circumstances. You may be eligible for some and not others, so always check the current official guidance.

- Households on a low income, receiving certain benefits or living in certain postcode areas.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)

- Eligible households referred through energy suppliers and participating local authorities.

EV chargepoint grants
- Broadly intended for
- Renters, flat owners, residential landlords and households with on-street parking.

- The cost of buying and installing a home chargepoint socket.
Heat pump funding
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
An Ofgem administered scheme in England and Wales offering upfront grants towards low carbon heating. It is installer led, so an MCS certified installer applies on your behalf and deducts the grant from your quote. It is based on your property and heating system rather than your income.

Funded home improvements
Warm Homes: Local Grant
A government scheme for England, delivered through participating local authorities. Eligibility considers household circumstances such as income, certain benefits or your postcode area, alongside the energy efficiency of your property. Different schemes operate in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Because it is delivered locally, what is offered varies by area and can change as funding rounds open and close. No particular measure is guaranteed: a home assessment determines which improvements may be appropriate.

Energy company support
Support delivered through energy suppliers
Not all support comes directly from government. Under obligation based schemes you usually do not apply to government at all: an energy supplier, an installer working with one, or a participating local authority assesses whether your household qualifies.
Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)
Currently openECO4 requires larger energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency and heating improvements for eligible households across Great Britain. Ofgem has confirmed the scheme is currently extended until 31 December 2026. The Great British Insulation Scheme closed on 31 March 2026 and is no longer open to new applicants, although older websites may still mention it.

Under the current government schemes, eligible renters, flat owners, residential landlords and households with on-street parking can receive up to £500 towards a chargepoint socket, currently available until 31 March 2027. Most owner occupiers of houses with private driveways are not eligible.

How to check what you may be eligible for
Support is generally focused on heating and insulation. There is no universal national grant for solar panels or battery storage, although both can sometimes form part of a wider funded package, such as improvements recommended under the Warm Homes: Local Grant. No scheme can confirm funding before your household and property have been assessed.

What energy grants are currently available?
At the time of our last review, the main schemes are the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in England and Wales, the Warm Homes: Local Grant in England, the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) across Great Britain, and EV chargepoint grants for certain households. Each has its own rules, and availability can change, so check the official sources linked on this page.
How much is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant?
It currently offers £7,500 towards eligible air to water, ground source and water source heat pumps, £2,500 towards eligible air to air heat pumps, and £5,000 towards eligible biomass boilers. Qualifying off gas grid properties may currently receive £9,000 towards an eligible air to water or ground source heat pump, currently available until 31 March 2027. An MCS certified installer applies on your behalf.
Are heat pump grants means tested?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is not means tested: it is based on your property and heating system rather than your income. Other support, such as the Warm Homes: Local Grant, does take household income and circumstances into account.
Can I get a grant for solar panels or battery storage?
There is no universal national grant for either. Solar panels can be included within certain programmes, such as the Warm Homes: Local Grant in England, where the household and property meet the criteria and a home assessment recommends them. Support for standalone battery storage is more limited and usually forms part of a wider funded package where available.
How do I know whether a grant offer is genuine?
Verify the scheme through official government, Ofgem or local authority sources before sharing personal or financial information. Be cautious of unsolicited contact promising guaranteed grants or free installations, and of anyone pressuring you to decide immediately.
